Literacy

Literacy is grouped into three areas: Speaking and Listening, Reading and Writing. All of these activities are covered on a daily basis.

Reading - We have a comprehensive selection of reading materials in school. We aim to promote silent fluent reading as a lifelong their families. The Library is central to the school and each class has a weekly library session. For a list of recommended children's authors, please click here!
Speaking and Listening - Language is a vital part of every school and home activity We encourage our children to learn to be part of a group, both to listen and to communicate. Children learn to talk freely and exchange ideas through their activity and experience.

Writing - Children are given the opportunity to write for a wide range of audiences - creative prose, poetry, letters, factual accounts, etc. We aim to develop good handwriting and expect a high standard of presentation.

We have been reading 'Zoo' by Anthony Browne. We wrote some stories from the point of view of the animals. You can read some of them here.
